From Learnings to Action: Analysing Key Lessons from the Perform Europe Projects

Perform Europe isn’t just a funding scheme — it’s a programme with the ambition to transform how we tour performing arts across borders: make it greener and more inclusive. Real change also comes from reflecting on what we’ve learnt. That’s why our consortium partner, IDEA Consult, has developed a unique methodology to capture and share key insights and lessons from our trailblazing projects.
As Perform Europe projects are halfway through their cross-border journeys, each is encountering unexpected challenges and lessons that shape its success.
The learning methodology ensures that these moments aren’t lost but instead become valuable insights for others — transforming obstacles into concrete actions that can be shared as good practices, driving a collective shift in the sector.
Our Methodology to Turn Learnings into Transformation
To document, analyse, and share these learnings, IDEA Consult has developed the Perform Europe Learning Trajectory — a framework based on Reflexive Monitoring in Action (University of Wageningen and DRIFT.)
This approach tracks learning processes within the selected Perform Europe projects, analyses them together with all partners involved in the projects, and later will share this knowledge with the broader arts sector.
How It Works
Each project designates a dedicated person responsible for capturing insights among the partners using the tools provided by Perform Europe. These lessons are then shared in online workshops, where participants meet, discuss, and collectively refine their findings.
In the end, the key takeaways will be analysed and shared widely through open sessions and publications, including the publication of a Guidebook for Future Practices.
The insights from this analysis will empower artists, producers, festivals, venues, policymakers, and anyone involved in the performing arts sector to adopt greener, more inclusive, and diverse touring practices. This, in turn, will contribute to the necessary transformation of the sector.
Stay tuned for the next steps in this journey!
