Building Bridges: Playback Theater for a Minority Adaptation

‘Building Bridges: Playback Theater for a Minority Adaptation’ unites four theatrical playback groups from Lithuania, Germany, and Ukraine to perform a series of interconnected shows ‘Echoes of Identity’. These performances will take place in Vilnius, Berlin, Hamburg, and Dnipro, allowing audiences to share their stories and witness them transformed into art.

The project will culminate in Dnipro, where the stories of refugees and members of the European community will be brought to Ukrainian soil with transformation through reflection and performance for the mixed Ukrainian community. This initiative emphasises inclusion and diversity by highlighting minority voices and fostering cross-cultural dialogue. By merging diverse perspectives and sustainable methods, these performances aim to transform the performing arts sector, promoting resilience and inclusivity across Europe.

‘Echoes of Identity’
Producers: Playback Theater Vakhtery
‘Echoes of Identity’ is a playback theatre performance, exploring the rich tapestry of national, ethnic, and religious minority experiences. This interactive show combines improvisational storytelling, movement, and music to delve into themes of identity, belonging, and resilience. Audience members share personal stories, which are then transformed into compelling theatrical pieces.

Playback performances involve participants connecting with their emotions and sharing narratives related to identity, cultural heritage, migration, discrimination, or resilience. The ensemble then brings these stories to life using improvisational techniques. This is followed by reflection and dialogue.

‘Echoes of Identity’ will be performed in Vilnius, Berlin, Hamburg, and finally in Dnipro, Ukraine.
